Insight Society: A Psychotherapy Group For Anxiety
June 16th - July 28th
Down Under School of Yoga
Newton
Mondays, 9:00am-10:30am
If you often feel worried or nervous throughout the day or struggle with overthinking, restlessness, and sleep disturbances, this is the right group for you.
This six-week, mindfulness-based program is designed to address symptoms of anxiety. Participants will gain insight into their relational, behavioral, and cognitive patterns in this structured group setting.
Throughout the program, you can expect to learn about common triggers of anxiety, the neuroscience behind sensations, and an introduction to healing trauma, as well as effective strategies for understanding and reducing anxiety.
Group therapy is particularly effective for individuals struggling with anxiety as it provides a unique environment where participants can share their experiences and worries with others who understand their challenges. This shared experience fosters a sense of community and belonging that can reduce feelings of isolation, often accompanying anxiety.
Each session will include a 30-minute yoga/mindfulness practice and a 60-minute therapy group. A breakdown of each week's theme and coping strategy is listed below:
Program Breakdown:
Week 1 (June 16): Psychoeducation on Anxiety & Yoga
Week 2 (June 23): The Neuroscience Behind Anxiety & Meditation
Week 3 (June 30): The Discovery of the Self & Progressive Muscle Relaxation
Week 4 (July 14): Symptoms of Trauma & Breathwork
Week 5 (July 21): Working with Trauma & Self Compassion
Week 6 (July 28): The Various Paths to Further Healing & Mindfulness
Weekly Yoga Classes
I found my way to this practice after having just walked away from four years of competing in NCAA athletics. The physical component of yoga brought me to my first class. The mental and emotional freedom it continues to offer is what fuels my constant return.
My classes blend strength, athleticism, and mindfulness into a rhythmic flow to help individuals process and attune to their bodies. I understand yoga as a collection of brief, effort-filled moments that, when gathered together, create a complete, steady, and powerful flow.
You can expect emphasis on a beginning meditation, sun salutations, a dynamic sequence, and continuous breath within each class.
